Coaching 101
Coaching With Willie is an exciting way to move your piano playing forward through ongoing group and individual coaching.
Group sessions are held bi-monthly, while individual 1-on-1 sessions can be scheduled every 90 days. Read the frequently asked questions below for more details about the program.
What is included with Coaching With Willie?
Coaching With Willie gives you (2) different coaching options. Both options are included in your Coaching With Willie membership.
Group Sessions: these sessions are held every other week at different times throughout the week. The schedule will always be updated on the group sessions page. Group sessions typically run for about an hour and gives students the opportunity to ask me questions, share their playing or just watch and listen as I answer other student's questions.
1-on-1 Sessions: these sessions can be booked every 90 days and are private, 1-on-1 training between you and I. No one else is a part of this training or sees the recording. These sessions are private lessons and run for about 15 minutes. If you cannot attend live, there is also an option for you to submit a video and I'll create a video back to you.
When can I book a 1-on-1 session with Willie?
After you sign up for Coaching With Willie, you can book your first 1-on-1 session after 60 days. This waiting period is to give you an opportunity to do three things: 1) have an opportunity to really go through some lessons and learn how to use the site to its fullest, 2) give you the opportunity to join in on a group session to test out the software, and 3) give you time to create some clear and concise goals that we can use during our private 1-on-1 sessions.
When are Group Sessions?
Group sessions are held twice a month. Always visit the group session page for the most up-to-date schedule. Email reminders will also be sent out before the live training. I try to schedule group sessions at different times throughout the month, some early, some later, but please understand that I am in the Eastern Time Zone and can not always accommodate students' schedules.
Do I need to show my camera or have my mic on during group sessions?
No. In fact, since my group sessions happen while some students are at work, often I'll have students who just 'watch' the session and chat in any questions that they have. Since the sessions are all recorded, it is easy to review my answers later when it is more convenient for you to watch. When you log in to a group session, there is no need to show your camera or have your microphone on. In fact, I ask all students to mute their microphone when joining a group session.
Can I 'save up' my 1-on-1 coaching sessions and use them when I want?
No. To fit everyone into my schedule, students can only have one private 1-on-1 session every 90 days. Don't worry though, I record the session and will give you plenty to work on for several weeks. You can also join the group sessions throughout the month if you have further questions for me. After you book a session, your 90-day timer starts again and you will be able to book another session in 90 days.
What software will I need and how do I use it?
We use the free Zoom software to connect to both group and individual 1-on-1 sessions. Take a look at the Zoom tutorial videos. Be sure to watch the Meeting Controls video.
Do I need any special equipment?
No. The Zoom software works on all devices (computer, tablet, phone) and simply uses the camera in your phone or laptop. Some students like to purchase external USB webcams but these are usually unnecessary. There is nothing that you need to connect to your keyboard.
How do I upload to Youtube?
Here are some helpful videos.
What happens if I can't make a group session?
No worries! You are not obligated to join the group sessions. If you can't make the session, you can view the recording usually 30 minutes after the live session finishes. You are welcome to submit your questions for the event, but live attendees questions are prioritized, so I may not have time to answer your submitted question.
What happens if I have to cancel my private 1-on-1 session?
After scheduling your 1-on-1 session, a 90-day timer begins. For example, if you schedule a 1-on-1 session on Jan. 15th, you will be able to schedule your next session any day after April 15th. Even though you scheduled on Jan. 15th, your session date might be weeks in the future. You will also be sent an email with a link to reschedule or cancel your session. If you cancel your session, you can not book another session until your next 90-day slot opens up. However, you can reschedule a session to a future date. So, it is always best to reschedule than cancel!
I've been grandfathered into coaching. What does that mean?
If you are a PianoWithWillie member that was grandfathered into coaching, this means you get to enjoy all of the benefits of my Coaching With Willie program. This includes both group and 1-on-1 training sessions for as long as your PianoWithWillie membership remains active.
